Breathing Easy

Dearest friends of OHAAT, I hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits as we approach the conclusion of another remarkable year.

Thanks to your kind-heartedness, more than 1900 children so far this year have received a bed, along with essential bedding items: a quilt, a pillow, a toothbrush, a comforting stuffed animal, and bedtime stories to call their own. This marks the highest number of beds we've ever provided in a single year! Each month, we've received an overwhelming number of referrals, and every day brings more children referred to us, especially as we approach the holiday season.

Because of you, these children will receive the most precious gift of all this year - the hope for a healthy and robust future. They will now have the opportunity to go to sleep in a clean, secure, and warm bed every night, ensuring they get the rest they need to flourish, something many of us may take for granted. On their behalf, thank you for your support.

Every day we receive more referrals and requests to help families who are struggling, to help children like Nathan. After losing everything when their apartment flooded, Nathan’s mom could not afford to replace all the furniture they lost. A kind neighbor offered them an old sofa to use while they saved to replace everything. Unfortunately, this triggered Nathan’s asthma, and many trips to the ER followed. Nathan’s extreme sensitivity led to almost constant breathing problems while he slept. His mom wondered if blankets piled on the floor where she slept would be better or worse? Thankfully, CHOP’s Asthma Prevention Program knew who could quickly help. Within a week, thanks to your support, OHAAT’s Beds for Kids team delivered a hypoallergenic mattress and new bed frame to Nathan, along with a new pillow, blanket, and sheets. Nathan is breathing evenly and sleeping soundly in his new bed, and the new bed is helping Nathan’s mom breathe easier too.

*all names have been changed to protect the privacy of the families we serve

Today, we embark on our end of year campaign to prepare for the new year ahead. Our goal is to continue to provide beds for even more families like Nathan’s by raising $50,000 by December 31st.

We’re reaching out to you because we need your help. This giving season, will you please consider giving the gift of a good night's sleep to children in our community who do not know what it’s like to have a bed of their own?

  • Just $37 covers the cost of a bedtime bag which includes a sheet set, blankets, a pillow, books, a stuffed animal and toothbrush.

  • $210 provides all of those things PLUS a brand-new bed frame and memory foam mattress for one child in need.

  • $448 provides a bunk bed and bedtime bags for two children in need.

Will you please consider making a donation and change a child’s life forever?

With your support, we will impact our community in a lasting way! Please join us by sending your gift by using our online donation form at www.ohaat.org/donate-funds. We need friends like you to let these children know they matter.

Again, a HUGE thank you from all of us for helping to make the Beds for Kids program possible. We cannot continue this mission without your help.
