Intern Spotlight — Riley Walton

Riley started her OHAAT internship as a sophomore at Arcadia University where she studies sociology. She’s from Lansdale and in her free time she loves to cook, hang out with friends and family, and travel. Riley is still exploring future professional career paths, but is hopeful that she will pursue opportunities in the human services field. OHAAT has inspired her to stay devoted to supporting and positively affecting her community and its members. Her experience interning at OHAAT allowed her to grow professionally, but also personally. Riley has developed the knowledge to understand and address community needs, as well as the skills that go along with working in human services. She’s learned to apply skills she was taught in class to real-world situations, which has been extremely beneficial to her growth.

How did you learn about OHAAT?

I learned about OHAAT from a professor of mine at Arcadia University who suggested this organization for me. As soon as I heard about OHAAT, I knew it was perfect for me.

What were you looking for in an organization to intern at?

I was looking for an organization that really made an impact on the community and that had a team that was very passionate and dedicated to changing the lives of people around us.

What has your favorite part about interning at OHAAT been?

My favorite part about interning at OHAAT has been packing the bed time bags, but I also equally love interacting with the volunteers when they come in. Overall, I love how hands-on it is at OHAAT and really feeling like I’m making a difference in the community.

How has working alongside another intern shaped your experience at OHAAT?

Working alongside an intern has been such a great experience. It's incredibly helpful being able to collaborate with one another and enhance my knowledge and skills by sharing with each other. Being with another intern, I’ve gained a new perspective on how I can approach tasks, and I’ve improved my teamwork and communication skills.
