Where do I go to volunteer? Volunteers meet at OHAAT’s facility in Huntingdon Valley. The address is: 474 Pike Road, Unit C, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. (Note: This is a new location as of March 1, 2024)
How old do I have to be to volunteer? Volunteers must be at least 11 years old to participate in Sorting Events and at least 14 years old to participate in Delivery Events. Any child under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult and bring this completed Release Form with them to their first volunteer event. Please Contact Us with any questions.
How many people can volunteer at once? Individuals can sign up for Sorting and Delivery Events on our Volunteer Opportunities page. We can also schedule Delivery Events for private groups of 4 to 8 people. For more information, check out our Volunteer page.
What kind of training do I need? No training is required! All sorting and delivery events are run by by OHAAT staff.
What should I wear? We recommend dressing in layers and wearing comfortable, closed-toed shoes. If you’re volunteering for a sorting event, dress according to the outside temperature because our storage facility doesn’t have heat or air conditioning. If you’re volunteering for a delivery event, be prepared to face the elements.
How much lifting is required during delivery events? OHAAT delivers twin mattresses and frames that weigh 30 to 50 pounds each. They can carried with moderate effort by two people, one at each end. We also have lighter items (bags filled with bedding and bedtime items) that any volunteer, young or old, can carry.
Will you cancel delivery events if it rains? No, we deliver rain or shine! We do, however, cancel deliveries if there are unsafe road conditions caused by hurricanes or snow storms.
Do I have to drive during Delivery Events? OHAAT will provide a driver for OHAAT’s truck, and other volunteers will follow in their own vehicles. (We recommend carpooling.) Keep in mind that most deliveries are in Philadelphia, so drivers should be comfortable navigating the city’s streets. Before heading out for deliveries, we’ll provide you with driving directions to each home. The total drive time from OHAAT’s storage facility to each home and back is usually between 60 and 120 minutes.
