One House at a Time
Ending Child Bedlessness in Greater Philadelphia

July Newsletter

Welcome the July edition of our newsletter at One House at a Time (OHAAT). In the midst of a global health crisis, we have seen wonderful support from our community. It takes a certain kind of person to make a difference in the world. To choose to help others. To fight for good. Thank you for being one of them.

What's New at OHAAT?

Contactless Deliveries!

Not all superheroes wear capes! Meet Brandon, our driver who has been getting beds to kids who need them through contact-less deliveries. Our drivers and volunteers have been helping us continue our mission throughout the global pandemic. Contact-less deliveries are keeping our volunteers, families, and staff safe.

Meet Our Newest Team Member!

We are very excited to introduce you to our new employee Eslinda Ollomani, who has joined the OHAAT team as our Summer Intern. She'll be working with donors, on fundraising events, communications and marketing and lots more!

Community Support

During this unprecedented time, OHAAT has received such generous monetary and in-kind support from our volunteers, friends, Foundations and local businesses. Thank you to those who have found creative ways to "quaranteer' at our virtual events or spread knowledge about our services through birthday fundraisers on social media!

Support to sustain our program is now more important than ever, as we respond to families who are coping with extremely challenging circumstances during the pandemic crisis. Recent donations will provide bed frames, mattresses, blankets, sheets and pillows to families who are desperately in need.

Our friends at St. Matthew Lutheran Church recently delivered a supply of pillows, blankets, sheets and the hundreds of books! We are continuously grateful for their support.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Diane McGrath who raised over $600 for the Beds with Kids program with her birthday fundraiser on Facebook! It is so wonderful to have such amazing support, now more than ever.

We received a beautiful donation of blankets from our friends at Project Linus! These handmade blankets will go directly to children in need to provide comfort and aid in getting a good night's sleep during this unpredictable time.

Volunteer Events

We were fortunate to partner with Volunteering Untapped (VU) PHL with a virtual event in June! VU PHL donated handmade bookmarks, no-sew blankets, stuffed animals, books and over 100 toothbrushes

We were excited to partner with Crooked Eye Brewery as their Featured Fundraiser for a week in June. Crooked Eye Brewery donate 10% of their revenue that week to OHAAT's Beds for Kids program!

Dine with OHAAT!

Join us for a meal on July 30th at Elevation Burger  in Willow Grove anytime from 11AM to 9:30PM. 15% of  your meal's price will be donated back to Beds for Kids!

Tax Information for 2020

Did you know there are new benefits for charitable donors? The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act provides charitable giving benefits and tax relief for both individuals and corporations. Signed on March 27, the legislation includes a new deduction and charitable deduction limits, as well as waiving required minimum distributions.
