Board Spotlight: Karen Kooman
Karen Kooman has been volunteering for the Beds for Kids program since 2019, joining the OHAAT Board of Directors in 2020. A Vice President at PNC Bank, Karen is also very involved in her community. A founding member of the OHAAT Volunteer Committee, she spearheaded this year’s shoe drive fundraiser that was a great success in not only raising funds, but awareness of Beds for Kids. Karen and her husband, Kevin, have three active daughters who are learning first-hand the value of hard work and giving back to their community.

“I am delighted to be here at the Beds for Kids Program working with this wonderful team of people. I have worked for many years as an advocate for healthy families. One of my passions is working collaboratively to address needs that are challenging our communities. My role with OHAAT is to help get beds to families in need. Consider this an open invitation to contact me with any questions you may have. I am excited to meet you, build our connections, and grow our program.”

Shoe Drive Success |
We are SO grateful for the generosity of our community for helping us to collect 157 bags of shoes, about 4,000 pairs, through our Jan/Feb Shoe Drive. The Beds for Kids Program will receive a donation from Funds2Orgs for each pound of shoes collected and send them to underdeveloped countries to help entrepreneurs learn business skills and make shoes more accessible in their towns. We could not have completed this project without the help of our Volunteer Committee Members and organizations in our community like Willow Grove Baptist Church, Jarrettown United Methodist Church, Wissahickon School District, and Starbucks Horsham, as well as individual drives and efforts.

OHAAT took part in the first Montco Care Fair at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Several organizations planned the outdoor event including OHAAT, Habitat for Humanity Montgomery and Delaware Counties, Your Way Home, and ARTolerance. Each organization is truly making a difference in the lives of Montgomery County residents and the surrounding area.
