Welcome the September edition of our newsletter at One House at a Time (OHAAT). We have had a busy few months thanks to our dedicated volunteers, donors, referral partners, and staff! It takes a certain kind of person to make a difference in the world. To choose to help others. To fight for good. Thank you for being one of them.

Volunteer Spotlight
Barry Muth
At One House at a Time (OHAAT), we have some of the best volunteers around. This month we would like you to meet Barry Muth. Barry has been a part of the OHAAT family since 2012. He was first introduced to OHAAT by his dear friend and OHAAT Board Member, Emily Jeske. Barry served as a member on our Board and has even delivered over 1000 beds to children! We are so thankful for Barry and his commitment to our mission.

Through your support, we were able to deliver our 600th bed of the year this past month! Because of our donors and volunteers, 600 more children are able to sleep comfortably and soundly in their new beds.

Update: Dining With OHAAT |
As we strive to end child bedlessnes in the Greater Philadelphia area, we are grateful to local businesses who support our mission! A portion of the proceeds from recent dining events has gone to the Beds for Kids program. Thank you to Elevation Burger in Willow Grove, Red Stallion Kitchen & Bar in Hatboro, and to those who were able to "dine with us" this summer.

We're celebrating National Make Your Bed Day in honor of our Beds for Kids program! We ask that when you make your bed, please take a moment to think about the children in your area without a bed of their own to make.

NEW Kid Hygiene Packs |
We strive to make sure that our kids are receiving everything they need to have a safe and comfortable place to rest, and have recently received some generous donations that will allow us to include a hygiene pack in our Bedtime Bags!
Handmade children's masks have been donated by Quilts for Kids, Langhorne Days for Girls, and from Jen Wilson. Thanks to an anonymous donor, we are also able to provide some families with hand sanitizer to protect from COVID-19 and other illness!

We are so thrilled with this amazing donation drive by Girl Scout Troop 73448 for our Beds for Kids program. The troop worked for their bronze service award, delivering several car loads of donations to our storage facility with hundreds of books as well as pillows and other essentials for our bedtime bags. One scout, who was originally turned down for a donation of tooth paste and brushes, wouldn't take "no" for an answer. She sent a handwritten letter and received a donation from Tom's Of Maine! Thank you for supporting OHAAT and spreading the word about our services.

Young Volunteer Makes a Big Difference |
For his Bar Mitzvah, Alex Young asked his family and friends to consider donating to OHAAT's Beds for Kids program. Alex raised enough to provide 25 beds for children in our area! On top of this monetary collection, Alex and family volunteered for a Beds for Kids delivery this spring. He also held a book drive, delivering about 100 books last week. Thank you to Alex, Ethan, Ken and Jami Young, as well as their family and friends!

After their moving sale, Upper Dublin Public Library donated several boxes of gently used books for children and teens. Along with a new bed frame, mattress and pillow, each Beds for Kids recipient receives a bedtime bag with supplies including several age appropriate books. We couldn't offer these basic items without the support of our community!

We are also thankful for our friends who pop in with generous donations to our Beds for Kids program like Sandy, Abbie & Julie did this summer. Look at all of the stuffed animals and books they collected! Thank you so much for your support.

Community Support |

We are so grateful for the support of the Montgomery County Foundation Inc. and to be one of 250 Covid-19 relief grant recipients! Because of this support, we have been able to continue to provide contactless deliveries through our Beds for Kids program. Thank you!

Long-time OHAAT volunteer, Katie Sedmak, donated a supply of her new book to our Beds For Kids families.
"If You Can't Bear Hug, Air Hug" is now available on Amazon and Kindle! Written for ages 2-5, it is an uplifting book of rhymes for children that explores the creative ways animals might show affection while social distancing. Her book delivers a reassuring message of love and resilience. You can find details on this beautiful book, a coloring printable for children, and a link for purchase at www.theairhugbook.com.

Maya is not your ordinary kindergartner. As a bilingual child, when schools shut down, her Argentine mother wanted her to continue practicing the Spanish alphabet through drawings. This activity later inspired the idea of sharing her unique creations and words through a book!
Maya has decided to donate a portion of her book sales to One House at a Time (OHAAT)! Click here to read more.

Ending the Summer with a Big Goal
Reflecting on the events of the first half of this year, we can’t help but be grateful for all of your support for the Beds for Kids Program.
Throughout this unprecedented, and often difficult time, we have continued to serve families through contactless deliveries, all thanks to the generosity of our new and long-time supporters!
We set a goal for our summer fundraising campaign to reach $10,000 in gifts, and we are so thrilled to announce that we surpassed our goal! We can't thank our donors enough for your generosity. If you would like to participate in the summer campaign, please click here for ways to help end child bedlessness in the Greater Philadelphia area.
