First Chapter After Graduation
Lucas instructs a group of volunteers at the OHAAT warehouse.
Lucas was one of OHAAT’s summer interns, joining the team following his graduation from The George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in Human Services and Social Justice with minors in Management and Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Health Equity. Lucas plans to work in the realm of fundraising and philanthropy specifically collaborating with nonprofit organizations. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his cat, Ivy, walking on new nature trails, and thrifting.
Prior to graduating, Lucas began searching for nonprofits in the Philadelphia area that were working to support individuals experiencing homelessness and alleviating poverty. He came across OHAAT’s post on LinkedIn, and it felt like the perfect opportunity.
What were you looking for in an organization to intern at?
When searching for an internship, I knew I wanted an opportunity that would introduce me to the Greater Philadelphia community while allowing me to build relationships with local nonprofits, government officials and agencies, and community partners. Since I plan to build my career in Philadelphia, it was important to find an organization that aligned with my previous experience and would provide a strong foundation for my next professional steps.
What has your favorite part about interning at OHAAT been?
My favorite part of interning at OHAAT has been the opportunity to work on a range of projects. I have particularly enjoyed planning the community event we are hosting in September. This has meant coordinating with venues, organizing site tours, and communicating with potential event spaces has given me hands-on experience in event planning and project coordination.
How has working alongside other interns shaped your experience?
Working alongside the other four interns has shown me the importance of communication and leadership. We all bring different strengths, perspectives, and experiences, which has taught us how to work together effectively.
